Quick Take
The Wusthof Classic 8 inch pairs a precision forged high carbon blade with a full bolster and triple riveted handle. It arrives shaving sharp and holds an edge well with honing. At $170 it is an investment, and the full bolster complicates sharpening, but it is the reference chef knife for a reason.

Quality
Wusthof forges each Classic blade from a single piece of high carbon stainless steel, tempered to 58 Rockwell, then hones it with PEtec precision edge tech. The full tang, bolster and riveted POM handle create the traditional German profile. Fit and finish are excellent and the knife feels built for decades.
Value
At $170 it is not cheap, but it undercuts many Japanese artisan knives while offering a lifetime of service. A $40 knife replaced every few years costs more over time. Buy once, hone often, sharpen yearly.
Who Should Buy It
Buy it if you cook daily and want the one knife that handles 90 percent of tasks.
Who Should Skip It
Skip it if you prefer lightweight Japanese blades or want a full set for the same money.
FINAL VERDICT
The Wusthof Classic is the chef knife by which others are judged. Hefty, sharp and built to last, it is worth every penny for serious home cooks.
