Quick Take

The Moccamaster KBGV Select is the enthusiast’s drip coffee maker: handmade in the Netherlands, brewing at a precise 196 to 205 degrees, with a selector switch for half or full 40 ounce carafes. At $379 it costs as much as some espresso machines, and lab tests suggest you are paying partly for the aesthetic. But the build quality and five year warranty are unmatched.

What We Like

  • Brews at the ideal 196 to 205F for proper extraction
  • Handmade in the Netherlands with exceptional build quality
  • Half or full carafe selector brews small batches properly
  • Five year warranty, far beyond the industry norm
  • Brews a full 40 ounce carafe in 4 to 6 minutes

What We Don’t Like

  • $379 is espresso machine money for a drip brewer
  • Mostly plastic construction feels wrong at this price
  • Some lab tests found uneven extraction versus cheaper rivals

Quality

The copper heating element and metal housing feel industrial and honest, and every part is replaceable, which is why these last decades. The 9 hole spray arm distributes water well in practice, and the hot plate holds coffee at serving temperature for 100 minutes. It is built like lab equipment, in the best way.

Value

This is the hardest value call in coffee. A $100 drip maker with an SCA certification brews comparably in blind tests. What $379 buys is longevity, repairability, and the pleasure of a beautifully made object. If you keep appliances for decades, the math works; if you upgrade every few years, it does not.

Who Should Buy It

Buy it if you want the last drip coffee maker you will ever buy and appreciate heirloom build quality.

Who Should Skip It

Skip it if pure cup quality per dollar is your metric, where cheaper SCA certified brewers compete.

FINAL VERDICT

The Moccamaster is a wonderful object and a good, not great, brewer at a great brewer’s price. Buy it for the craftsmanship and the decades, not for a revelatory cup.
