Quick Take
Sperry invented the boat shoe in 1935 and the Authentic Original 2 Eye is still the blueprint: moccasin construction, rawhide laces threaded 360 degrees around the shoe, and a siped rubber sole inspired by a dog’s paw. It is the definitive preppy casual shoe, equally at home on a dock or at a summer barbecue.

The Details
Full Review
Quality
The leather upper and hand sewn moccasin stitching honor the original 1935 design. The Wave Siping outsole is the real deal for wet surfaces. That said, longtime fans note the leather and finishing are not quite what they were a decade ago.
Value
At $110 full price these are not cheap, but they go on sale constantly and the style never expires. The value case rests on cost per wear over many summers. Buy during a sale and the math gets much friendlier.
You’ll Love It If
Preppy traditionalists, boat owners, and New England summer people.
Skip It If
Sneakerheads, anyone needing arch support, and leather avoiders.
FINAL VERDICT
An icon with a slightly faded halo. Still the boat shoe to beat on style, but buy on sale and budget for the break in.
