Quality

The Clifton 9 pairs a stripped back engineered knit upper with a compression molded EVA midsole and Hoka’s signature early stage Meta Rocker. Removing overlays and hot melts cut weight while a plusher heel collar and gusseted tongue improve the fit. Durabrasion rubber in high wear zones helps the outsole survive daily miles, and the whole shoe is vegan. It feels thoughtfully built, if not indestructible.

Value

At its $145 list price the Clifton 9 was fairly priced for a premium daily trainer. At current sale prices around $115 it becomes one of the best values in running. The newer Clifton 10 and 11 cost more without revolutionizing the formula, so bargain hunters should grab the 9 while sizes last.

You’ll Love It If

New runners, daily trainers, and anyone on their feet all day who wants maximum cushion without a clunky ride.

Skip It If

Racers and tempo day runners want something snappier, and wide footed runners should try before they buy.

FINAL VERDICT

The Clifton 9 is the rare sequel that pleased longtime fans and converted skeptics. It cushions everything, disappears on the foot, and now costs less than ever. If you want one shoe for easy miles and long days, this is still the answer.
