Quick Take

The X100VI keeps the beloved X100 formula and adds a 40.2 megapixel sensor, in body stabilization, and much better video, making it the most capable version of the line. It is still hard to find at list price, and the recent US price jump to $1,799 stings.

Loves

  • 40.2MP APS-C X-Trans CMOS 5 HR sensor delivers outstanding detail
  • Five axis in body stabilization gives up to 6 stops of shake correction
  • 20 film simulations including REALA ACE nail the Fuji look in camera
  • Hybrid optical and electronic viewfinder remains a joy to shoot with
  • 6.2K video recording makes it a genuine hybrid for video creators

Not For

  • Fixed 23mm f/2 lens means no zoom and no lens changes
  • US list price rose from $1,599 to $1,799 after tariff increases
  • Autofocus can hunt in low light next to Sony rivals

Quality

The X100VI carries the same machined aluminum top and bottom plates and tactile dials that made the X100 line famous, with a satisfying mechanical feel to the aperture ring and shutter dial. At 521 grams it is reassuringly dense without being heavy, and the two way tilting touchscreen is a welcome upgrade. The fixed 23mm f/2 lens is sharp with pleasant rendering, though it softens a little wide open at close distances.

Value

At $1,799 it sits in awkward territory: $200 more than its launch price and uncomfortably close to interchangeable lens bodies like the Fujifilm X-E5. You are paying for the complete package and the film simulation workflow, not raw value per dollar. If you love shooting 35mm equivalent and hate editing, it earns its keep; if you want flexibility, a Sony or Canon body with a pancake lens stretches further.

You’ll Love It If

Buy it if you shoot mostly street, travel, or everyday life at 35mm and want great color straight out of the camera.

Skip It If

Skip it if you need zoom range, shoot fast action in low light, or refuse to pay over list on the used market while stock is tight.

FINAL VERDICT

The X100VI is the best fixed lens compact most people can buy and the most fun shooting experience under $2,000. The price hike and availability are real frustrations, but nothing else delivers this blend of style, color, and portability.
