KADS SCORE

Quick Take

Dior Sauvage wins for most men. Its $135 price undercuts Bleu de Chanel, its bergamot and ambroxan base projects harder and lasts longer than Bleu’s quieter woods, and it is the safest signature scent blind buy in designer fragrance. Bleu de Chanel is the more refined, office polished composition, and it is a genuinely great fragrance. But for performance, versatility, and value, Sauvage takes it.

Loves

  • Sauvage projects for 8 plus hours on a couple of sprays
  • $135 undercuts Bleu de Chanel by $7 for the 3.4 oz bottle

Not For

  • Sauvage is extremely common, you will smell it on other men
  • The ambroxan base can feel sharp and synthetic to some noses
  • Bleu's EDT longevity is moderate, not exceptional

Quality

How they compare: build and design. Dior Sauvage is built around Calabrian bergamot, Sichuan pepper, lavender, and a heavy ambroxan and cedar base, a bold fresh woody composition that projects strongly and lasts unusually long for an eau de toilette. Bleu de Chanel takes the opposite path: grapefruit, lemon, mint, and pink pepper over New Caledonian sandalwood, dry cedar, and incense, an aromatic woody scent that is smoother, more refined, and deliberately quieter. Sauvage is the crowd pleaser with power; Bleu is the connoisseur pick with polish.

Value

Price comparison. Sauvage EDT 3.4 oz lists at $135. Bleu de Chanel EDT 3.4 oz lists at $142. The $7 gap is small, but Sauvage also lasts longer per application thanks to its stronger projection, so the bottle stretches further. Chanel almost never discounts fragrance, while authorized discounters occasionally shave a few dollars off Sauvage. On total cost per wear, Sauvage wins again.

You’ll Love It If

Men who want one versatile signature fragrance with strong performance for the office, evenings, and dates should buy Sauvage.

Skip It If

Fragrance minimalists who find bold scents tiring, and anyone who specifically wants a soft, refined, inoffensive office fragrance, will prefer Bleu de Chanel.

FINAL VERDICT

Dior Sauvage is our winner. It costs less, performs better, and suits more occasions than Bleu de Chanel. Choose Bleu if you want a quieter, more sophisticated office scent and do not mind reapplying. For everyone else, Sauvage is the bottle to buy first.
