Quick Take

The Aviator Classic pairs the green G 15 lens with a thin gold metal frame in the shape every other aviator copies. At one ninety one it is a considered purchase, but no other sunglasses have this history or this staying power.

What We Like

  • The original and still the best aviator shape
  • G 15 lenses offer excellent clarity and 100 percent UV protection
  • Timeless design suits most face shapes
  • Lightweight metal frame
  • Huge range of lens and frame options

What We Don’t Like

  • Premium price for a simple design
  • Thin metal frame bends if mistreated
  • Green lens is not polarized on the base model
  • Oversized fit overwhelms small faces

Quality

The RB3025 is made from thin, precisely formed metal with the double bridge that defined the category. The G 15 glass lens absorbs 85 percent of visible light while preserving true color, which is why pilots trusted it. Hinges and nose pads are simple and serviceable, and the whole frame weighs almost nothing.

Value

One ninety one is steep, but Aviators do not go out of style, which means you buy them once instead of chasing trends. Polarized versions cost more, and deals exist at department stores, but the classic holds its value in a way fashion sunglasses never do.

Who Should Buy It

Anyone who wants the definitive sunglasses silhouette.

Who Should Skip It

Athletes and small faces should try the smaller 55mm or sport models.

FINAL VERDICT

The Aviator Classic is the most imitated sunglasses design in history, and the original is still the one to buy. Timeless, excellent, and worth the money.
