Quick Take

The Era 100 remains the smartest first Sonos speaker: real stereo sound from a single compact box, Trueplay room tuning, and WiFi plus Bluetooth plus AirPlay 2. The permanent price cut from $249 to $199 removes the biggest objection. It is not perfect, but at this price it is the multiroom speaker to beat.

What We Like

  • Rich, room filling stereo sound from a compact speaker
  • Trueplay tuning adapts the sound to your room
  • WiFi, Bluetooth, AirPlay 2, and voice control all built in
  • Pairs in stereo or joins a full Sonos home theater
  • New $199 price is excellent value

What We Don’t Like

  • No Google Assistant support, only Alexa and Sonos Voice
  • Line in and Ethernet both require extra dongles
  • Bluetooth 5.0 only, with no hi res codec support
  • The Sonos app is better than it was but still occasionally flaky

Quality

The Era 100 is a handsome little monolith: clean lines, touch controls on top, and a build that feels solid and premium. Inside are two angled tweeters and a larger midwoofer driven by three Class D amplifiers, which is how it produces genuine stereo separation from one box. It is available in black and white, and it looks good on any shelf.

Value

At the new $199 price the Era 100 undercuts the Apple HomePod mini on sound quality while offering a real upgrade path into a multiroom system. The JBL Authentics 200 is a strong rival with more features, but nothing matches the Sonos ecosystem for whole home audio. Two Era 100s in stereo for $398 is one of the best sounding setups under $400.

Who Should Buy It

Anyone starting a Sonos system, or anyone who wants one great sounding smart speaker for a bedroom, kitchen, or office.

Who Should Skip It

Google Assistant households should look elsewhere, and anyone who wants a portable battery powered speaker should get the Sonos Roam 2 instead.

FINAL VERDICT

The Era 100 at $199 is the best value in the Sonos lineup and the easiest way into multiroom audio. It sounds bigger than it looks, tunes itself to your room, and plays nicely with everything. A few missing features sting, but the price makes them easy to forgive.
