Quick Take
The Adidas Samba OG at $100 and the Puma Palermo at $85 are the two defining terrace sneakers of the moment. Both offer leather uppers, gum soles, and endless wearability. The Samba wins on cultural weight, material quality, and versatility, but the Palermo is $15 cheaper and slightly more comfortable out of the box for some feet.
What We Like
- Samba: the original icon with unmatched outfit versatility
- Samba: better leather quality and cleaner finishing
- Palermo: $15 cheaper with frequent Puma sale discounts
- Palermo: comfortable fit with good arch feel for many wearers
- Both: gum soles and retro profiles that age gracefully
What We Don’t Like
- Samba: narrow fit and confusing sizing
- Samba: sells out constantly in the best colorways
- Palermo: less refined details and branding
- Palermo: thinner cultural cachet; it reads as the alternative

Quality
Side by side, the Samba’s materials edge ahead: the full grain leather is smoother and the construction tidier. The Palermo counters with a solid leather base, suede Formstrip and overlays, and a well made gum sole. Both are mass market shoes built to a price, and both exceed it. Neither will fall apart, but the Samba looks more expensive than it is, while the Palermo looks exactly what it costs.
Value
At $85 the Palermo is the rational buy, especially when Puma discounts drop it toward $65. At $100 the Samba charges a $15 icon tax that millions happily pay. Cost per wear favors whichever you will actually reach for, and most wardrobes reach for the Samba more. If budget rules, the Palermo delivers 90 percent of the look for less.
Who Should Buy It
Buy the Samba if you want the definitive version. Buy the Palermo if you want the smart money version.
Who Should Skip It
If neither terrace style speaks to you, both will sit unworn; buy the sneakers you actually love.
FINAL VERDICT
The Samba OG takes the crown. It is the better made, more versatile, more enduring shoe, and $15 is a small premium for the definitive article. But the Palermo deserves its flowers: it is comfortable, well priced, and refreshingly unhyped. There is no wrong answer here, only a favorite.
