Full Review
Quality
The S5880/81 feels solid in hand with a grippy housing and a pivoting head assembly that moves smoothly. The 45 self sharpening blades are made in Europe, and the shaver carries a two year warranty with an extension if you register it. The LED display shows battery level, cleaning reminders, and travel lock status. Charging is over USB A, though the wall adapter is not in the box.
Value
At $99.96 the Series 5000 undercuts the Braun Series 7 by about $90 while delivering a comparable daily shave. The main ongoing cost is replacement heads, about $35 every couple of years, which is cheaper than Braun cleaning cartridges. Unless you specifically want a foil shaver, this is the value king of midrange electrics.
You’ll Love It If
Buy it if you want a comfortable rotary shave with smart features at a midrange price.
Skip It If
Skip it if you are loyal to foil shavers or want a self cleaning dock in the box.
FINAL VERDICT
For most faces the Series 5000 is all the electric shaver you need. It is comfortable, close cutting, and sensibly priced. Rotary fans and first time electric buyers should start here.
