Quick Take

The Weekender 40mm keeps everything people loved about the original and polishes the rough edges. The price climbed to $119, so it is no longer the impulse buy it once was, but it is still a lot of watch for the money.

What We Like

  • Clean white dial with full Arabic numerals is easy to read at a glance
  • Indiglo backlight lights up the whole dial in the dark
  • Slip thru fabric strap swaps in seconds with no tools
  • 50 meter water resistance handles rain and quick swims
  • Quartz movement keeps accurate time with zero upkeep

What We Don’t Like

  • Price is up a lot from the classic Weekender days
  • Tick is loud enough to hear in a quiet room
  • Fabric strap feels stiff until it breaks in
  • Mineral crystal instead of sapphire at this price

Quality

The new Weekender wears a low lead brass case with a polished silver tone finish, a mineral crystal, and a recycled fabric slip thru strap. It feels noticeably more finished than the old Weekender, with a redesigned crown and a date window that has its own magnifier. At 56 grams it is light enough to forget on your wrist, and Timex backs it with a one year warranty.

Value

At $119 the Weekender now sits in a busier part of the market, up against Casio and entry level Citizen quartz watches. It earns its spot with the Indiglo dial, the endlessly swappable strap system, and a design that works with a tee or a blazer. If you catch the older 38mm models on clearance they remain the bargain pick, but the 40mm is the better watch.

Who Should Buy It

Buy it if you want one unfussy watch that pairs with everything and you never have to think about.

Who Should Skip It

Skip it if you want automatic movement, sapphire crystal, or a watch that feels like jewelry.

FINAL VERDICT

The Weekender 40mm is still the easiest recommendation in affordable watches. It looks good, tells time accurately, and shrugs off daily wear. Buy it once and you will reach for it more than watches costing five times as much.
